Management Information Systems professor recognized for service and excellence

The International Association for Computer Information Systems (IACIS) selected Dr. Sean McGann, Associate Professor of Management Information Systems, as the 2007 recipient of its Ben Bauman Award for Excellence. Dr. McGann has earned this award through his demonstration of outstanding scholarship, service and great promise. His dedication to student achievement, development of the MIS curriculum, and many other recognizable accomplishments are just a few examples of why he is deserving of such a prestigious honor.
Here are some highlights of Dr. McGann's outstanding career achievements:
- Worked with large ERP and Supply Chain System projects for five years with Andersen Consulting in Columbus, OH, founded a firm-wide mentoring program and served as project manager on a number of multi-million dollar engagements
- Founded and became CEO of Pogonet Internet Solutions
- Completed his OU MBA in 1994 and was inspired by former professors Valerie and Jim Perotti to pursue his PhD.
- Spent one year as Visiting Professor with the MIS Department and was awarded the AITP Professor of the Year Award
- Began his PhD studies in 2001, accepting a full scholarship to Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead School of Management in their Information Systems department
- As a professor in the MIS department since 2003, spearheaded MIS curriculum reforms aimed at aligning the curriculum and industry, authored more than a dozen research manuscripts published in journals and conference proceedings, and served on a number of College and University committees
- Currently serves as advisor to the Association for Information Technology Professionals (AITP) chapter, Assistant Director of the Ohio University Integrated MBA Program and Chair of the CoB Placement CIT Committee.
The Ben Bauman Award for Excellence recognizes faculty excellence and service. Candidates for the award include senior faculty with significant service to their profession, university and community. Professor Raymond Frost, MIS department chair, describes Sean as "an outstanding member of our faculty and a cornerstone of the department. We are very proud that one of our own was selected to receive this prestigious award. "
