Ohio University CMBA Program at IKATAN

Philosophy of the IKATAN-Ohio University CMBA Program

The IKATAN/OU CMBA program is designed to provide both the participating executives and their sponsoring organizations with high value outcomes. The participant will develop individual tools and managerial skills that will prepare them for executive careers. Sponsoring organizations will receive an executive with current, state of the art managerial tools and skills and high levels of future potential for executive level positions. Participants will be able to begin utilizing these new tools and skills immediately and in the context of the sponsoring organization. The course of study will enable the participant to deepen and broaden the knowledge and theory he/she already possesses and to continue to learn, grow, and develop one's self as well as others throughout their careers. It is not a shortcut or a refresher course in executive leadership, but an integrated, in-depth educational and developmental program designed to develop executive and leadership talent.

The CMBA program is based on a learning community that will grow continuously larger and stronger. The membership in this community includes the participating executives, management of the sponsoring organization, faculty and staff of IKATAN and Ohio University, and the families of the participating executives. The underlying values that drive this community to continuous innovation and learning are reflected in the value statement as follows:

"In our quest to become World Class Corporate Leaders, we, the members of the CMBA learning community will be exemplars of a pioneering spirit, and will uphold the practice of honesty in all forms and at all times, teamwork involving all members, visionary and innovative virtues on the part of all members that, taken together, support the dynamic pursuit of excellence with a high standard of ethics and a continuous commitment to quality learning."

Program Structure

Participants and their sponsoring organizations can expect to dedicate approximately half of the normal work time to the CMBA program. During the weeks when classes are session, participants will be in full time residence at IKATAN's campus. During the time that participants are assigned to the projects they will be deeply involved both at their job sites and remote locations.

Phase One requires two sessions of 5 consecutive weeks and Phase Two requires 12 weeks at approximate ly one week per month of full time commitment and residency. The projects and learning platforms will require 3 to 4 additional weeks of full time commitment. This does not include study and preparation time that will be required between formal class and project meetings. Thus, at a minimum, the participating executive will dedicate one half of the normal work time to the CMBA program. The CMBA Program covers a 15 month period commencing in June and closing the following year in September. During the weeks when classes are not being held, executives are expected to be back on duty at their regular jobs in the employing organizations. It is critical that the participant's supervisor and relevant officials of the employing organization understand these time demands and agree to release the participant from work duties as appropriate

Enrollment and Admissions Procedures

Enrollment in the CMBA will be limited to 33 per class. There will be two classes per academic year with the intake in June and the graduation the following year in September.

In order to qualify for admission to the program applicants should:

The CMBA is designed to allow participating executives to learn in the context of their jobs for the sponsoring organizations. Further, whenever possible the CMBA learning process depends heavily on teams and task forces as a means of developing leadership skills. As such, team projects in the context of the sponsoring organization will form the basis of much of the learning. To effectively achieve this learning while assuring the confidentiality of sensitive corporate information, there must be a minimum of three participating executives enrolled in the CMBA program from any sponsoring organization.

The role of the sponsoring organization in the selection of candidates for the CMBA program is critical. The decision to apply for admission must be made jointly by the organization and the candidate. Potential candidates should be identified by the senior management of the sponsoring organization. These recommendations should be based on the future potential and contribution of the candidates to the org anization. In short, the first and most critical decision on admission to the CMBA program is made at the corporate level of the sponsoring organization. Once the recommendations have been made the senior management of the sponsoring organization will be afforded a seat on the CMBA admission team for all candidates recommended by his or her organization.

Program Outcomes

In considering the outcomes of the CMBA program one must keep in mind that this is an intense management development intervention. This intervention provides the participating executive with an Ohio University MBA but it provides a great deal more. Given the fact that the CMBA program is designed in the context of the sponsoring organization immediate as well as long term returns can be expected. For the participants it is a developmental process. To the sponsoring organization it is an important part of the organizational development program. Participants will learn to use the tools and skills in the context of their jobs. This allows for the immediate, value added, application. Since the participants can bring their current challenges to the classroom this application is tailored specifically to the needs of the sponsoring organizations and individuals. Further, the Applied Research/Internal Consultancy project is designed to provide high value consultancy outcomes to the organization. Finally, because the program is designed to create leaders with the ability to develop themselves as well as others the participants become a self renewing leadership resource able to create and maintain a learning organization. In short. sponsoring organizations should realize a pay back on the investment by the time the executive graduates.
